How To Be An Emotionally Available Manager

How To Be An Emotionally Available Manager

Getting things done through your Team, by inspiring them and motivating them, is not an easy task: this requires application and skill. Always remember one of the Golden Rules of Management, which is that your success is their success, and vice versa!

A big factor in making this work for you is to be tunes into your emotional intelligence and to use the following principles to be emotionally available for your staff:

  • Communicating accurately and carefully your feelings and being able to reflect upon them, both immediately and to remember for the future.
  • Being able to have meaningful conversations where you share your thoughts, experiences, opinions and memories.
  • Showing compassion and empathy and being there for staff who are struggling and who need some support.
  • Communicating in a variety of ways, tailored for a range of different people and audiences, when there is an issue: communication is clear, concise and accurate.
  • Showing curiosity and compassion, holding back from making a knee-jerk decision on the spot, during times of conflict and uncertainty.

Nothing earth-shatteringly difficult here, just taking the time to consider your impact and how it can create positives and new developments.

Good Luck!
