How Can I Deal With Pressure?

There may well be many different things that happen to you that you cannot control, BUT you can do many practical things to manage the amount of pressure you are under.

  1. Identify the pressure triggers

Working out what triggers stress in you is the first practical step to take. This will help you to anticipate problems and ways to deal with them. Start by identifying issues that come up regularly and that you worry about. This includes one-off big events that come along from time to time and ongoing stressful events.

  1. Organise your time

Managing your time will help you feel more in control and will help you to handle pressure better. Identify your best time of the day for dealing with important and urgent tasks and jobs and make a list of the things you have to do, putting them in order of importance, tackling the most urgent first.

  1. Vary your activities

Balance interesting tasks with those that are more mundane or boring. Try not to do too much in one go and pace yourself. Take breaks and take things slowly, at a pace that suits you, as this will make you more productive.

  1. Address some of the causes of stress

If you can get some of the causes of stress from your mind, this will help your general health and make you more productive.

  1. Accept the things that you cannot change

Never easy, but recognise that there are some things that will be out of your control and which you cannot stop – at least by seeing this you are better placed to deal with the things that you can change and influence.

Good Luck!
