- Make sure that the person being delegated to accepts these responsibilities
- Inform others who need to know what the arrangements are
- Monitor progress: there should never be a time when you are unaware of what is going on
- Make sure that the person delegated to has sufficient and relevant information available to do the task
- Give support and assistance at all times but make sure that you do not end up doing the job yourself
