Coaching Or Mentoring – Which Should You Offer?
Staff need support to get to where you want them to get to in terms of meeting targets, achieving outcomes and delivering performance objectives. Remember that if they do not achieve these goals than you have not achieved yours!
So, what is the difference?
Coaching: specific 1:1 support on achieving a specific task e.g. chairing meeting or conducting an Appraisal. Once done then the Coaching task has been completed.
Mentoring; a longer 1;1 relationship where support is broader, ongoing and is career focused onto a long term programme of development.
