What To Do With An Under-performing Employee?
An under-performing employee is a cause for concern for any manager, mainly because this level of disaffection and unhappiness gives the risk of this spreading to other members of the team: therefore it needs to be sorted out as a priority.
The WHAM method should get the process moving and hopefully identify what steps are needed to resolve the problem.
- Does the employee know WHAT they are supposed to be doing?
- Do they know HOW they are doing?
- ARE they able to do the tasks set?
- Are they MOTIVATED to do it?
What?
How?
Are?
Motivated?
These questions should always be the starting point and if used correctly will open up a large amount of information that you can then use to resolve the situation.
Good Luck!
