What To Do With An Under-performing Employee?

An under-performing employee is a cause for concern for any manager, mainly because this level of disaffection and unhappiness gives the risk of this spreading to other members of the team: therefore it needs to be sorted out as a priority.

The WHAM method should get the process moving and hopefully identify what steps are needed to resolve the problem.

  1. Does the employee know WHAT they are supposed to be doing?
  2. Do they know HOW they are doing?
  3. ARE they able to do the tasks set?
  4. Are they MOTIVATED to do it?

What?

How?

Are?

Motivated?

These questions should always be the starting point and if used correctly will open up a large amount of information that you can then use to resolve the situation.

Good Luck!
